Haute Mess turns ten with a Clocky Horror Show at Dalston Superstore

East London's queer club night celebrates a decade on Friday 30 October with a "time warp" line-up of its veterans, 9pm–4am, £8 before 11pm. The clocks go back that weekend, too.

Party: Haute Mess turns ten with a Clocky Horror Show at Dalston Superstore

Haute Mess, the queer club night at Dalston Superstore, celebrates its tenth birthday on Friday 30 October with "The Clocky Horror Show", a Halloween-eve party that the venue bills as a "time warp lineup of haute mess veterans and superstars". Doors open at 9pm and the night runs until 4am, with entry at £8 before 11pm and £10 after, according to the official event page. QX Magazine's listings carry the same date and venue.

Who's on the bill

The venue lists a long roll call for the night: Donna the First, Tom Rasmussen, Die Lemma, Danni Spooner, Petit Lame (spelled "Petite Lame" on the poster), Acid Sally, Subdawn, R:Elise, Shivum Sharma b2b Lagoon, Holly Warcup and Perrin. The event page doesn't split the names into DJs, hosts and performers, so expect a mix of decks and stage. The title plays on The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and the timing is a gift to the theme: British clocks go back an hour in the early hours of Sunday 1 November, the morning after Halloween.

"This is not a drill – we are celebrating 10 YEARS of Haute Mess!" the listing opens, calling the club the venue's "enfant terrible" and inviting guests to "come up to the lab". There is no dress code on the page, but a horror-film birthday on Halloween weekend doesn't need one spelled out.

Why a ten-year-old night matters

Ten years is a long run for any club night, and a birthday line-up made of former residents and regulars says something about who built it. Dalston Superstore itself opened in May 2009, founded by Dan Beaumont and Matt Tucker, and has become one of east London's best-known LGBTQ+ bars and club spaces (Wikipedia).

The venue's door policy is worth reading before you go. Dalston Superstore says it is "a queer space" that prioritises LGBTQIA+ customers, asks straight and cis allies not to take up space, and says door staff won't ask personal questions. It also offers a limited number of discounted places for people on low or no income, requested by email at least 48 hours in advance (event page).

Not in London this weekend?

In Rome, Muccassassina runs a three-night Halloween Fest at Qube from 30 October to 1 November, with a single pass on sale through its official site. In Bologna, the Cassero's Halloween party sits inside the Gender Bender festival (see today's Events piece).
